Motueka (New Zealand) Finishing Dry 20g Hop Pellet Tea Bag 2020 (Alpha Rating 7.4%)
Motueka™ hops are a crowd favourite aroma hop (but can easily be used as a dual-purpose hop). Have a distinctive fresh crushed citrus ‘mojito’ lime character and are known as lively or zingy with notes of lemon-lime and some tropical fruit. AA 6-8%.
Finally, craft breweries all around the country can obtain this sensational hop that is taking the world by storm, thanks to Brook House Hops!
Motueka was created in a programme called 'Hops with a Difference' by New Zealand’s Plant and Food Research. It was bred by crossing a Saazer and an unknown New Zealand breeding selection. Whatever happened during that breeding certainly worked as Motueka is an exceptional hop!
Motueka has had several names over the years. It was formerly known as B Saaz and Belgian Saaz and it has become a premier New Zealand hop: with that growing popularity, comes massive demand. This fabulous hop with floral aromas and lemon, lime and other tropical fruit notes used to be very difficult to get hold of in England, until our partnership with Battery Hill, one of the largest hop farmers in New Zealand.
Motueka makes an excellent dual-use hop. The first impressions of Motueka are a very lively and intense lime flavour followed by some hints of lemon zest and tropical fruits. The big citrus notes dominate and give a huge punch and are much of the reason that this hop is so sought-after and popular.
Motueka is perfect for the craft brewer who enjoys experimenting because it can be used at any stage of the brewing process. *It works very well in malty, sweet and fruity beers and is genuinely a very versatile hop.*
- Dark lagers, English ale, European ales, pilsner, lager and Belgian ales
- Floral, Lemon, Lime, Tropical Fruit
It can be an excellent bittering hop, although it is mostly used in the aroma stages to ensure its magical flavours are present throughout the aroma and flavour profiles of the finished product.
