Nelson Sauvin t90 (New Zealand) Finishing Dry 20g Hop Pellet Tea Bag 2020 (Alpha Rating: 11.3%)
Lelson Sauvin™ hops are a 'rock star' aroma/dual purpose hop variety. Have a distinctive gooseberry and 'new world' white wine character that is very noticeable and distinctive in beer. AA 10-13%.
Developed at New Zealand Hort Research, this variety was bred using a New Zealand Smooth cone variety and a selected New Zealand male. It was launched around 2000 so is a very young variety indeed.
Its fresh crushed gooseberry aroma is a descriptor often associated with the Sauvignon Blanc grape and its aromas are similar. Nelson Sauvin gives not just New World aromas such as fresh gooseberry, but also blueberry, mango and white grape along with lychee, mango and spicy notes too.
Providing intense, distinct flavour characteristics as well as high alphas, Nelson Sauvin is an excellent dual purpose hop and all-rounder, very good at creating delicate and subtle lagers or hugely bold and cheeky ales.
Nelson Sauvin is thought of as a 'quintessentially New Zealand' variety and is often a labour of love for brewers, who admire is complex aromas and versatility. Due to low levels of Cohumulone, which determine bitterness, it can be used for both bittering and aroma and when put in a kettle, it can product a wide range of stunning flavours and aromas.
